ATHENS, Ohio - The Central Michigan women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Ohio at the Bobcats' Chessa Field to close their Mid-American Conference-opening weekend on Sunday.
The Chippewas, who are 5-4-1, 0-2 MAC, opened league play on Friday with a 2-1 loss at Kent State. They are scheduled to play host to Akron on Friday, Sept. 29 (6 p.m.) at the CMU Soccer-Lacrosse Complex. The Zips are 1-8-1, 0-2 MAC.
"It's always a humbling reminder of how hard the MAC is," CMU coach Peter McGahey said. "Nothing is free, it's earned. One play at a time, one pass at a time, one goal and one day. We feel disappointed with results but we'll get better."
Hannah Jaggers gave Ohio a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. CMU was unable to respond and the Bobcats got second-half insurance goals from Allie Curry and Sara Kattainen to secure the win.
"We have to do a better job of not creating our own challenges and errors," McGahey said. "It's a little self inflicted and that becomes critical. We have to do a better job managing. We also have to continue to attack."
Chippewa goalkeeper Zoie Reed recorded three saves.
The Chippewas finished with a 17-7 edge in shots, including a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. CMU finished with six corner kicks to Ohio's two.
Lexi Pelafas tallied five shots, two of which were on goal, while Madison Costner and Madison Pogarch added three shots apiece.
