MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Only three games remain in the 2018 season, and the Central Michigan soccer team looks to improve its position for a berth in the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The Chippewas (6-10, 4-4 MAC) play their final regular-season home games this weekend, hosting Ball State on Thursday (7 p.m.) and Miami (Ohio) on Sunday (1 p.m.).
FINISH LINE APPROACHING
With four wins, the Chippewas are tied for seventh place with 12 points (three points for a win, one for a tie). CMU controls its own destiny in its quest for what coach Peter McGahey calls the "third season," the MAC Tournament.
"Being in control of our destiny and playing this weekend at home is important to capitalize on," he said.
The Chippewas are tied with Buffalo for the seventh spot. The top eight teams earn a tournament bid. Eastern Michigan (3-5 MAC) is ninth with nine points. CMU closes the regular season at Eastern Michigan on Oct. 25.
Kent State and Toledo are tied for fifth place with 13 points each, while Ohio is alone in fourth with 14 points. In short, there is the potential for plenty of jockeying for position over the final week of the regular season.
