Junior is the lone MAC player selected.
Junior Ryan Tice has been named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza National Collegiate Place-Kicker Award.
Â
Tice is the lone student-athlete from the Mid-American Conference to be named a semifinalist.
Â
The Saline, Mich., native is 10-12 on field goals and 12-12 on PATs. He is tied for the conference lead in field goal accuracy (83.3 percent) and ranks 18th nationally. Seven of his field goals have been 40+ yards, which is tied for the third-most in the nation.
Â
The junior's 53-yard field goal against Ball State is the third-longest in program history. Rade Savich holds the school record with a 57-yard boot in 1975 while Kevin Nicholl made a 54-yarder in 1989. Tice's kick is the longest by a MAC kicker this year and tied for the 12th-longest in FBS. It was also the first 50+-yard field goal by a CMU kicker since David Harmon hit a 50-yarder in the 2012 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl against Western Kentucky.
Â
The Lou Groza Award will be presented live as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Atlanta, GA on Thursday, December 6. The three finalists will be honored during a celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with the 27th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Banquet, presented by the Orange Bowl, on Monday, December 3.
