Chippewa Wrestlers Fall At Virginia

Stencel, Simon, Park collect victories for CMU
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia won four of the final five matches on Friday in downing Central Michigan, 22-18, in a nonconference wrestling dual at the Cavaliers' Memorial Gymnasium.
The loss dropped CMU to 0-2. The Chippewas are scheduled to wrestle at Maryland (0-2) on Sunday (2 p.m.) in a nonleague dual. Virginia improved to 4-2.
CMU seized a 12-6 lead on Logan Parks' 8-6 victory over Jake Keating at 157 pounds. Parks improved to 7-4. Virginia then won four consecutive matches, the first on a pin at 165 by 17th-ranked Cam Coy which evened the dual at 12-12.
Virginia then got a major decision win at 174 followed by decision victories at 184 and at 197. Virginia's Jay Aiello, who is ranked 11th, took a 9-4 decision from Landon Pelham at 197 to up the Cavaliers' lead to 22-12 and clinch the dual.
Central Michigan sophomore Matt Stencel closed the dual with a first-period pin of Quinn Miller at 285. It was the sixth pin of the season for Stencel, who improved to 7-3 on the season.
CMU also got a 5-4 victory from sophomore Dresden Simon (149) and a win by default from Drew Hildebrandt (125). Simon snapped a four-match losing streak with his victory over sophomore Sam Martino, who entered the dual 7-6 on the season.
