Chippewas Finish 3-1 At Liberty Softball Challenge

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Central Michigan softball team split its two game on Friday on the second and final day of the Liberty Softball Challenge at Liberty's Osborne Stadium.
CMU opened with a 3-2 win on Friday over Delaware State, and then dropped a 4-3 decision in nine innings to the host Lady Flames.
The Chippewas (4-4) finished 3-1 in the challenge.
Central Michigan returns to action over Spring Break when it travels to Clearwater, Fla. for the South Florida Under Armour Invitational.
GAME 1
Rachel Vieira's two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Andrea Perlberg from third to lift the Chippewas to the victory over Delaware State.
Samantha Howell (2-0) went the distance in the circle for the victory. The freshman right-hander struck out one, walked one and allowed six hits.
The Chippewas outhit the Hornets, 10-6. Erika Underwood had three hits including a double to pace the Chippewas. Vieira and Perlberg added two hits apiece.
GAME 2
Liberty pushed across the go-ahead run on a one-out triple in the top of the ninth. The Chippewas stranded the potential game-tying run at second base on the bottom of the inning.
Hanna Warren (1-3) took the loss, allowing four runs over 8 1/3 innings. Laura Vaccaro pitched the final 2/3 inning, striking out one. Warren struck out four and surrendered 12 hits.
Underwood finished with three hits for the Chippewas, Maison Kalina had two, and Curtis had a two-run double.
