
Chippewa Softball Splits A Pair

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Central Michigan softball team split its two games in day two of the South Florida Under Armour Showcase on Saturday.
CMU is 8-11 after falling to Villanova, 2-1, and topping Lehigh, 5-3, in the nightcap. The Chippewas are scheduled to close the tournament and their Spring Break trip on Sunday (9 a.m.) against Seton Hall (12-11).
GAME 1
Nikki Alden homered leading off the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Wildcats the victory.
The Chippewas tied the game 1-1 in the top half of the inning when Erika Underwood doubled and took third on a Morgan Gardner single. Allison Curtis brought Underwood home with a bunt.
Losing pitched Laura Vaccaro (1-1) went the distance in the circle for CMU, allowing three hits
The Chippewas outhit Villanova, 5-3. Lacy Tolfree had two hits to lead CMU.
GAME 2
Winning pitcher Hanna Warren (3-4) tallied six strikeouts in going the distance for Central Michigan against Lehigh. Warren allowed four hits, walked two and struck out six. Just one of Lehigh's three runs was earned.
Tolfree led the Chippewas' 10-hit attack with three hits, while Underwood had two hits and drove in three runs, and Shaidan Knapp also had two hits.
The Chippeas seized a 4-2 lead by scoring three runs in the third inning.
