
Fast Start Propels CMU Lacrosse

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan lacrosse team grabbed an early lead and never relinquished it en route to a 17-12 nonconference win over St. Francis on Saturday at the CMU Lacrosse Complex.
It was the second straight victory for the Chippewas, 4-4, who begin Southern Conference play at home against Mercer (3-4) on Thursda, March 29.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CMU racked up an early lead in the first six minutes, with goals from Anna Schoonover, Shannon Doyle and Tyra Prince. The Chippewas led 9-5 at halftime. St. Francis (4-5) never got closer than three goals in the second half.
Central Michigan outshot St. Francis, 30-28.
THE LEADERS
Jocelyne Lemay recorded a team-high five goals for Central Michigan, while Jessica Schuchardt led the team in assists with four. Anna Schoonover added four goals.
Sarah Mahon tallied four goals to lead St. Francis.
THE GOALKEEPING
Chippewa goalkeeper Dominque Hamman (2-3) played 50 minutes, making five saves. Hope Murray took over for the final 10 minutes, saving two.
Grace Cooney (0-2) started in goal for St. Francis, making two saves in 12 minutes. Ashley Stoessel played the remainder of the game, recording four saves.

"We're finding the right people (offensively). When you have the personnel changes like we had during the off-season, it's tough to build that chemistry. I do think we need to improve on our tempo a little bit and make sure we're pushing when we need to push and slowing when we need to slow."
"This is what we hoped for. Even though some of those early contests were losses, they taught us a lot about ourselves. I'll take a loss against Cincinnati and Michigan any day because they were competitive games that made us better and I think you're seeing that come out now. It pays off to play the quality opponents. We're thrilled with where we're at and excited roll through these next four games (at home)."
