Cory Hall, who spent the past two seasons coaching cornerbacks at Oregon State, joined the Central Michigan football team as the secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator last week.
Hall's name came up frequently in CMU coach John Bonamego's search for the opening, and he remembers Hall when he was a defensive back in the NFL.
"We brought Cory in, and he made a presentation to the defensive coaching staff," Bonamego said. "(Defensive coordinator) Greg Colby and the rest of us were impressed with his preparation and what he had to say. "There is no doubt he is a high-energy coach, and he's a great fit for our program."
Hall finished the 2017 season as Oregon State's interim coach for the last six games of the season. Hall also coached defensive backs for Weber State in 2015 and was a graduate assistant for Wisconsin in 2014.
"The players and Bono attracted me to Central Michigan," Hall said. "The opportunity to continue to develop a talented young group was an important piece in making my decision. My goal is to contribute as a member of this staff and to develop young student-athletes."
Hall was a safety for Fresno State from 1995-1998 and was drafted in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He played four seasons in Cincinnati and two more with the Atlanta Falcons. He finished his NFL career with six sacks and three interceptions in 87 games.
Hall has a bachelor's degree in organizational management from Ashford University. Hall and his wife, Sarah, have six children, Cory Jr., Kyland, Jaden, Nya, Iliah and London.
