
Softball Splits On Day 1 In Florida

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Central Michigan softball team split its two games in the first day of the South Florida Under Armour Invitational on Friday at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.
The Chippewas opened with a win 2-0 win over Penn, and then dropped a 5-2 decision to Wisconsin.
CMU (4-5) is scheduled to play two games Saturday, the first against Wright State (10 a.m.) and the second against the host Bulls (3 p.m.).
GAME 1
Maison Kalina hit a two-run homer with one out in the sixth inning to account for the game's only runs. It was Kalina's first home run of the season.
Winning pitcher Hanna Warren (2-3) threw a three-hitter and stuck out two in going the distance for CMU.
Lacy Tolfree had three hits and stole two bases to lead CMU at the plate. Tolfree raised her average to .515 (17 for 33). The Chippewas had five total hits. It was the season opener for the Quakers.
GAME 2
Wisconsin (8-7) scored three runs in the third inning and added two insurance runs in the fifth.
The Chippewas got a run in the sixth when Tolfree stole home, and added one in the seventh when Allison Curtis tripled and scored on a Morgan Gardner groundout.
Losing pitcher Cloe Mallory (2-1) allowed three runs on six hits over 2 1/3 innings. Laura Vaccaro worked the final 3 2/3 innings, striking out four, for CMU.
The Chippewas collected five hits, including a double by Erika Underwood.
