MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Shannon Doyle scored four goals, but the Central Michigan lacrosse team fell, 14-11, in a rainy, nonconference matchup with Kennesaw State on Saturday at the CMU Lacrosse Stadium.
The Chippewas (5-5), who entered the game riding a three-game win streak, will play host to Howard in a nonleague game on Friday, April 6 (5 p.m.).
THE LEADERS
Anna Schoonover tallied three goals and one assist for CMU, while Emma Hamilton and Natalie Karlen scored two goals apiece.
Connor Zophy had five goals to lead Kennesaw State.
THE GOALKEEPING
Dominique Hamman made nine saves in just over 49 minutes in taking the loss. Hope Murray took over for the final minutes for CMU, making one save.
Lauren Hoffman went the distance in the cage for Kennesaw State, saving seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a back-and-fourth effort through the first half, with the Owls holding a 7-6 lead at halftime. Kennesaw State scored six of the first seven goals of the second half in building a 13-7 lead.
CMU Coach Sara Tisdale:
"We by far were the more experienced and knowledgeable team on that field, but we surely didn't play that way. I'm not sure if we let the elements get to us or what it was, but it's unfortunate that we didn't control what we can control."
"I think we were playing as individuals. I don't think you saw our defense play as a unit. Offensively, we weren't feeding the ball in so our key scorers weren't getting the touches."
