MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - In a dominating performance, 12 Central Michigan players scored as the Chippewa lacrosse team defeated Howard, 19-3, in a nonconference game at the CMU Lacrosse Stadium on Friday.
The Chippewas (6-5) have won four of their last five games and are scheduled for their final home contest of the season on Sunday (noon) against Southern Conference foe Delaware State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Five goals in the first eight minutes, first sparked by a goal by Sydney Wright, got Central Michigan a quick lead. The Chippewas didn't let up the rest of the game, leading 10-1 at halftime.
THE LEADERS
Tyra Prince led CMU with three goals. Jocelyne Lemay, Jessica Schuchardt, Sarah Farley, Shannon Doyle and Natalie Karlen added two goals each for the Chippewas.
Central Michigan outshot Howard, 41-14.
Natia Warren had two goals to lead Howard.
THE GOALKEEPING
Dominique Hamman (4-4) started in the cage for Central Michigan, logging two saves in just over 27 minutes. Hope Murray and Clare Laughery split the rest of the time in goal for CMU, totaling a combined three saves.
Amerra Sheckles (1-4) made 12 saves in the cage for Howard.
CMU COACH Sara Tisdale
"We knew they were going to be a driving team with only so many people on the field for them. We knew we weren't expecting a very complex offense, so for us it was a matter of us playing a good one-on-one defense. We're getting better at that. It's more mental than physical for us at this point, so we still have to get better at that.
"It's a matter of controlling what you can control and letting the rest of it go and playing through some things, so I think we did a better job of that today."
