MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Anna Schoonover tallied five goals and a program-record 11 draw controls to lead Central Michigan to an 18-1 Southern Conference win over Delaware State on Sunday at the CMU Lacrosse Stadium.
It was the final home game of the season for the Chippewas, who won for the fifth time in their last six starts in improving to 7-5, 2-0 SoCon. Delaware State is 0-9, 0-2 SoCon.
Amber Crouse, the Chippewas' first senior, was honored at the end of the game.
CMU will look to keep the momentum going when it goes on the road for the first time since March 2 on Friday (6 p.m.) to play at Furman in a conference matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Five goals in the first five minutes gave the Chippewas a quick lead. CMU scored 12 straight goals, with Delaware State logging its first and only goal about three and a half minutes into the second half.
THE LEADERS
In addition to leading Central Michigan in goals, Schoonover also shared the team lead for assists with Jessica Schuchardt with two each. Jocelyne Lemay added four goals while Hannah Potter and Natalie Karlen had two apiece.
Lauren Perry scored Delaware State's lone goal and led the team with two shots.
THE GOALKEEPING
Dominique Hamman (5-4) earned the win in the cage for Central Michigan. She played just under 14 minutes. Hope Murray and Clare Laughery split the rest of the time in goal for CMU, making two saves.
Losing goalkeeper Elizabeth Henry (0-3) made nine saves going the distance for the Hornets.
CMU COACH Sara Tisdale
"I thought we executed very well for 60 minutes. Delaware State is a program facing some growing pains and we knew that today would be a good game for us, but we still wanted to execute for 60 minutes and I think we did that."
"(We want to) keep the momentum rolling, starting out strong and playing for the full 60 minutes. It's been fun to be at home for the last couple of months and making an impact on the community like we wanted. We're excited to get on the road, it'll be 70 degrees and it'll be fun traveling together. It's when we build the most chemistry."
