Big Win Puts Chippewas Alone In First In SoCon

GREENVILLE, S.C. - In the battle of the Southern Conference unbeatens, Central Michigan came out on top as it defeated Furman, 13-10, on Friday at Paladin Stadium.
The Chippewas are 8-5, 3-0 SoCon and are the only undefeated team in the conference. The Paladins are 4-9, 1-1.
CMU is scheduled for another league game on Sunday (11 a.m.) at Wofford (0-12, 0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was knotted at 9-9 with just under eight minutes left. Back-to-back goals by Natalie Karlen put Central Michigan in the lead for good.
THE LEADERS
Karlen led the Chippewas with four goals and five assists. Anna Schoonover added three goals while Tyra Prince recorded two for CMU.
Abby Shields led Furman in goals with four while Britt Douglass, Meg Lingo and Isabelle Walsh each had two.
THE GOALKEEPING
Dominique Hamman (8-5) went the distance in the cage for the Chippewas, making 13 saves.
Courtney Baker made seven saves going the distance in goal for the Paladins.
