Chippewas Fall To South Dakota State

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Central Michigan softball team dropped its game against South Dakota State on Wednesday to close the Citrus 2 Tournament.
The Chippewas slipped to 7-8 as they fell 8-0 in five innings. CMU is scheduled to play in the South Florida Under Armour Showcase on Friday against Saint Joseph's (4:15 p.m.) and Chattanooga (6:30 p.m.).
IN THE CIRCLE
Losing pitcher Samantha Howell (2-1) started in the circle for Central Michigan, allowing three runs on two hits over 2/3 of an inning. Hanna Warren took over for 3 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Taylor Weaver pitched the final inning, allowing two runs on two hits.
Winning pitcher Madison Hope (6-1) allowed three hits and struck out one.
AT THE PLATE
Allison Curtis, Tala Dean and Erika Underwood each singled for the Chippewas.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Jackrabbits tallied a quick three runs in the first inning and added three more in the fourth. Paige Gerdes hit a two-run double to add two more insurance runs in the fifth and cap the win for South Dakota State.
