SETTING THE SCENE
For the first time since March 2, the Central Michigan lacrosse team is scheduled to hit the road, heading for South Carolina where the Chippewas will play Furman on Friday (6 p.m.) and Wofford on Sunday (noon). Both are Southern Conference games.
WHERE THEY STAND
CMU is 7-5, 2-0 SoCon after dominating Howard and Delaware State last weekend. The Chippewas outscored their opponents, 37-4, over the two games. Furman is 1-0 in league play. CMU and the Paladins are the lone unbeaten teams in the conference.
THE LEADERS
Anna Schoonover leads the Chippewas and is tied for third in the conference with 26 goals. Jocelyne Lemay ranks sixth in the league with 25 goals.
Jessica Schuchardt has tallied 22 assists, ranking her second in the league.
Schoonover has racked up 50 draw controls this season and set a program record for draw controls in a single game (11) against Delaware State. She is third in the SoCon in that category.
ATOP THE LEAGUE
CMU leads the SoCon in goals against average (11.08) and is converting on a league-best 47.9 percent of its shots.
SCOUTING
Furman is 4-8 overall and is riding a three-game win streak. The Paladins are coming off one-goal road victories over Mercer, 15-14, and over Kennesaw State 10-9. Both games went to overtime.
Abby Shields leads Furman with 40 points (24 goals, 16 assists).
Wofford is 0-12, 0-1 SoCon after falling to Mercer on Sunday, 23-5. Hannah Mutch leads the Terriers with 15 goals and eight assists.
NEXT
Central Michigan will play at Old Dominion (4-8) in a nonleague game on April 20.
