
Freshman Dunn Wins Hammer Throw

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Marissa Dunn highlighted the second day of the Spartan Invitational for the Central Michigan track & field team with a victory in the women's hammer throw at Ralph Young Field.
Dunn, a freshman from Novi, won with a distance of 183 feet, 6 inches.
Dunn's performance led a strong showing by CMU in the throws as freshmen Quiara Wheeler and Maya Bennett finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the hammer throw. Wheeler's best throw measured 166-3 ¾, while Bennett came in at 158-10 3/4.
Central Michigan senior Wendy Szuminski took second in the javelin with a distance of 133-1 3/4. Teammates Megan McElroy (130-6 ½) and Jayden Williams (126-7 ¼) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
The CMU women also had three top-eight placers in the discus. Redshirt freshman Erin Howard was third place with a distance of 145-6 1/8. Wheeler (127-11 3/8) and Mara Clark (118-2 1/8) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Howard also took fourth in the shot put with a distance of 45-6 1/8.
The CMU men's field events were highlighted by a second-place finish in the hammer throw by freshman Connor Covert with a distance of 171-11 3/8.
The Chippewa men got third-place finishes from Jake Zorn, javelin; and Sam Wagner, pole vault. Zorn measured at 145-7 3/8, while Wagner went 16-2 1/8.
On the track, the CMU men got third-place finishes from Alec Omell and Emmett Smrcka. Omell took third in the 1,500 meters at 4 minutes, 2.66 seconds; Smrcka was third in the 800 in 1:57.19.
The Chippewas recorded two top-eight finishes in the women's 5,000. Natalie Beauleu was fourth in 18:55.50, and Julianna Brown was seventh in 19:21.50.
CMU's Anna Flanders took seventh in the 400 with a time of 1:03.39.
