MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Former Central Michigan post player Luke Meyer has signed to play professional basketball in Macedonia.
Â
Meyer, a 6-foot-10 1/2 forward/center from Addison, started all 133 games of his CMU career, averaging 7.4 points and 4.3 rebounds.
Â
"I'm excited for the chance to play in Europe," Meyer said. "Not everyone gets the opportunity. I want to thank all of my coaches, teammates and my family and friends for helping me get there. It's been a dream of mine for my entire life to play professionally and it's a blessing that it came true."
Â
Meyer graduated from CMU in 2018, when he was named a Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athlete. He was a three-time Academic All-MAC selection and he finished his career with 131 blocks, which ranks fourth in program history.
Â
"The consistency, durability and work ethic that Luke brought to his game, I think, was evident to our fans and certainly appreciated and respected by everybody in and around Central Michigan basketball, particularly his teammates and the coaching staff," said Keno Davis, who is entering his seventh season as the Chippewas' head coach. "That kind of unselfishness and drive, coupled with the combination of his shooting ability, has allowed him to continue his basketball career.
Â
"I'm excited to see him to continue to develop. He had a good deal of success in college, but I won't be surprised if his best basketball is in front of him."
Â
Meyer, who earned a bachelor of science degree with a major in product design engineering technology, came to epitomize what it is to be a student-athlete during his time as a Chippewa. He increasingly filled a high-profile role as an ambassador for CMU Athletics, and graduated with a 3.29 grade point average.
Â
"Luke Meyer is what we want to recruit to CMU -- the total package," Davis said.
Â
Meyer helped lead CMU to a 21-15 finish in 2017-18 and a berth in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The Chippewas won two road games in the tournament before bowing, on the road, to Liberty. The tournament victories at Fort Wayne and then at Wofford marked a first for CMU men's basketball: back-to-back postseason road wins.
Â
The 21 victories marked the Chippewas' second-highest single-season win total since 2002-03, and it marked the fourth consecutive season in which CMU finished .500 or better, the first time the program has accomplished such a feat since the early 1970s.
Â
The Chippewas finished a combined 77-56 during Meyer's four years, which included two MAC West titles and an overall MAC regular-season championship.
Â
"Luke was an integral part of our program for four years, and we don't win the championships and go on to the post season without having Luke Meyer in program," Davis said.
