MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan wrestling team will entertain two Big Ten opponents in dual meets and will return to two of the most-prestigious tournaments in the country in the 2018-19.
Â
The Chippewas released their schedule today. They open with the annual Intrasquad Meet at McGuirk Arena on Oct. 29 and then travel to the Michigan State Open on Nov. 3.
Â
The home opener is slated for Sunday, Nov. 11, against Michigan, which finished tied for fourth in the NCAA Championships last spring.
Â
The Chippewas are slated to return this season to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in late November/early December, and to the Midlands Championships just outside Chicago at the end of December.
Â
"It's a challenging schedule, and then when you throw the Midlands and the Cliff Keen in there -- the Cliff Keen was the best tournament in the country last year," said Tom Borrelli, who is entering his 28th year in charge of the program.
Â
The home slate also features a dual with Purdue, which is a member of the Big Ten along with Michigan, and a dual with North Dakota State. The Mid-American Conference teams that are scheduled to visit Mount Pleasant in 2018-19 are Northern Illinois, Old Dominion and Ohio.
Â
The Chippewas will wrestle MAC duals at Missouri, Buffalo and Kent State along with league newcomer Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. The Chippewas are also slated to wrestle nonleague duals at Virginia, Maryland and Michigan State.
