Smith Earns Weekly MAC Award

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan volleyball player Kalina Smith has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week.
Smith, a junior outside hitter from Powell, Wyo., totaled 31 kills on a .319 attack percentage in helping lead the Chippewas to MAC wins last week over rival Western Michigan and over Northern Illinois.
Smith, who also had 15 digs in the two matches, averaged 4.43 kills per set. She had 19 kills on a .351 attack percentage in the Chippewas' four-set victory over Western Michigan, and she followed that up with a 12-kill performance in CMU's straight-sets victory over NIU.
The Chippewas are 20-4 overall, 10-2 MAC. With four conference games to play, they lead the West by three games over second-place Ball State and can clinch a division-title share with a victory in their home finale on Thursday, Nov. 7, against Eastern Michigan.
The Chippewas are eyeing the second division championship in program history and their first since 2003. The 20 wins is the most by a Chippewa team since the 2007 squad won 22 matches.
