MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Megan Kern was named on Wednesday the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Kern, a senior libero from La Grange, Ill., totaled 27 digs and six aces as the Chippewas went 2-0 on the week to move within one win of claiming their first Mid-American Conference divisional title since 2003.
Kern had 18 digs in the Chippewas' four-set victory over rival Western Michigan on Thursday, and then had nine digs and a career-high four aces in a three-set sweep of Northern Illinois on Saturday.
Kern is a biology major who carries a 3.97 grade point average. It marks the second time this season that she has been named the MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
CMU is 20-4 overall, 10-2 MAC. A win on Thursday over Eastern Michigan would clinch a West Division title share for the Chippewas.
