Targgart, Williams Earn MAC Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan's Nadia Williams and Logan Targgart received individual honors from the Mid-American Conference on Tuesday for their respective performances last Friday in the indoor track & field team's season-opening meet, the Grand Valley State Holiday Open.

Williams broke her own program record in winning the long jump to earn the MAC Female Field Athlete of the Week Award.

Targgart won the weight throw to earn the league's Co-Male Field Athlete of the Week Award.

Williams, who was a double All-American in the long jump last season, leaped 21 feet, 1 ¼ inches to easily win the event. She broke her own CMU indoor mark of 21-1/2. The senior from Mount Horeb, Wis. also won the 200-meter dash in the meet at Grand Valley's Kelly Family Sports Center.

Williams' leap is nearly 14 inches better than that of the second-best nationally this season.

Targgart, a senior from Coldwater, won the men's weight throw with a toss of 69-5 ¼. His throw was some 7 feet longer than that of the runner-up. Targgart's throw is the third-longest in the nation this season.
