Chippewa Cross Country Runners Named Academic All-MAC

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Ten Central Michigan student-athletes were named Academic All-Mid-American Conference for the 2019 cross country season.
CMU is represented by seven women and three men. Two Chippewas, Mark Beckmann and Conor Naughton, were named to the squad for the third consecutive year. Three others, Ana Garcia Arias, Morgan Merlino and Carissa Gobbi, are repeat honorees.
The Chippewas named to the squad with their hometown, year, grade point average and major: Beckmann, Waterloo, Ind., senior, 3.38, physical education; Naughton, Northville, junior, 3.57, sport management; Zachary Sleeman, Davison, junior, 3.37, neuroscience; Lexi Jorgens, Shelby Township, sophomore, 4.00, mathematics; Garcia Arias, Valdeorras, Ourense, Spain, junior, 3.62, mathematics; Lauren Beckmann, Waterloo, Ind., sophomore, 4.00, undecided; Merlino, Farmington, junior, 3.59, mathematics; Gobbi, Guelph, Ont., Canada, senior, 3.85, exercise science; Maija Rettelle, Midland, sophomore, 3.97, undecided; Alexa Davis, Kalamazoo, sophomore, 3.84, anthropology.
To be eligible for Academic All-MAC honors, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better and have participated in at least 50 percent of his or her team's competitions.
