MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan wrestling team will jump into Mid-American Conference competition this weekend with a road trip that will take the Chippewas to Pennsylvania and then New Jersey.
CMU will hit the mat in dual meets against MAC newcomers Lock Haven and Rider. The Chippewas are slated to wrestle Lock Haven on Friday at 7 p.m. and then will wrestle at Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J. on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Lock Haven and Rider are two of seven schools that joined the MAC as affiliate members for the 2019-20 season, bringing the total number of wrestling squads in the league to 15. Both compete in the league's seven-team East Division, while the Chippewas are a member of the West Division.
"We're going into the teeth of the new East Division," CMU coach Tom Borrelli said. "I like having different teams to wrestle from different parts of the country. If our kids compete well, we'll be alright."
