McKay Joins 1,000-Point Club In CMU Loss At Valpo

VALPARAISO, Ind. – Kevin McKay became the 35th player in program history to score 1,000 career points on Sunday as the Central Michigan men's basketball team lost to Valparaiso, 77-55, in a nonconference game at the Crusaders' Athletics-Recreation Center.
McKay, a senior guard from Warren, scored 16 points to lead the Chippewas. He also had 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and the 15th of his career. He has 1,001 career points.
CMU (7-3) had won its last two games, including an 84-75 home victory over UT Martin on Friday.
How It Happened
The Chippewas made just one of their 17 3-point attempts in the game. Valpo (6-4) used a 17-2 run midway through the first half for a 20-10 lead.
CMU trailed at halftime, 34-22. The Crusaders went a 19-9 spurt in the first six minutes of the second half in opening a 53-31 advantage with over 13 minutes to play. CMU never got closer than 17 the rest of the way.

CMU will head to Austin, Texas on Saturday, Dec. 14 (2 p.m.) for a nonconference game against the Longhorns (7-1). CMU then goes to Robert Morris on Dec. 17 and then to Purdue on Dec. 28 before opening Mid-American Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 4 at home against Miami (Ohio).
