Chippewas Lead SoCon With 5 Preseason All-Conference Picks

Defending regular-season champion CMU picked to finish third
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. –Five Central Michigan Chippewas were named to the All-Southern Conference Preseason team and the Chippewas were picked to finish third in the six-team league in a poll of conference coaches, released on Friday.
CMU attackers Natalie Karlen and Anna Schoonover, mid Jocelyne Lemay, defender Logan Halvorson and goalkeeper Dominique Hamman were named to the 12-team preseason all-conference squad.
Karlen and Lemay earned First Team All-SoCon honors last spring, while Halvorson and Hamman and Schoonover were each named to the second team.
CMU leads the league with five selections. Detroit Mercy has the second most with three.
Furman, with three first-place votes and 21 points, finished first in the team poll. Detroit Mercy, with two first-place votes and 20 points, was second. CMU finished with 18 points to finish third, followed by Mercer while Wofford and Delaware State tied for fifth.
The Chippewas are the defending regular-season champions, winning the SoCon in their first year in the league and just their third year as a varsity program.
The Chippewas open the season on Friday, Feb. 15, at Michigan. Their home opener is March 1 against Cincinnati.
