Lacrosse Tops Butler For First Win

Three Chippewas notch hat tricks
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Three Chippewas had hat tricks as the Central Michigan lacrosse team won its first game of the season on Sunday, downing Butler, 16-6, in a nonconference game.

The Chippewas improved to 1-1. Butler is 1-3.

"I'm very pleased with the win," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "We executed on both sides of the ball very well."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chippewas started fast, scoring four goals in the game's first 6:45 to take a 4-0 lead.

After a Butler goal, the Chippewas scored nine consecutive goals for an 13-1 lead early in the second half.

"Our defense was rock steady and executed the game our game plan almost flawlessly," Tisdale said. "We were able to get quality minutes in for a lot of players and helped give the team confidence overall."

LEADERS
Natalie Karlen, Anna Schoonover and Jessica Schuchardt scored three goals apiece to lead CMU, while Jocelyne Lemay and Emma Hamilton added two goals each. Schoonover also had two assists.

The Chippewas had 24 shots, won 15 draws, had three free position goals on opportunities and were 16 of 23 on clears. The Bulldogs had 16 shots, won eight draws, and zero free-position goals.

"Today we gave ropes to Logan Halvorson, Brianna Hart, Kelly Spehar and Schoonover," Tisdale said. "Halvorson was excellent all over the field. Hart and Spehar executed their defensive assignments to perfection. Schoonover made adjustments throughout the game and was dominant on the draw."

GOALKEEPING
Dominique Hamman started in goal for CMU and recorded three saves. Clare Laughery and Hope Murray also played in goal in relief of Hamman.

The trio combined for seven saves.

The Chippewas' home opener is scheduled for Friday, March 1 against Cincinnati at the Central Michigan Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. The Bearcats are 3-2 and are coming off an 18-8 win against Detroit Mercy.
