CMU defender plays key role in 16-6 victory
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Kelly Spehar was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for women's lacrosse.
Spehar, a senior from Grand Rapids, headlined the Chippewas' defensive effot in a 16-6 nonconference victory at Butler on Sunday.
Matched against the Bulldogs' top scorer, Spehar held her in check, limiting her to just four shots as the Chippewas built a commanding 11-1 halftime lead. Spehar caused two second-half turnovers as CMU quelled Butler's hopes for a comeback.
The Chippewas, 1-1, play host to Cincinnati in their home opener on Friday (3 p.m.) at the Central Michigan Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
