MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Athletics announced today that PXG will be the official equipment provider for CMU's golf program. PXG will provide its performance-focused, custom-fit golf equipment to the Chippewas women's golf team.
Â
PXG was established by well-known American entrepreneur Bob Parsons, and is also supported by his wife, President of PXG Apparel and 1991 Central Michigan alumni, Renee Parsons (LaBelle). Founded with the sole intent to design and develop the world's finest golf clubs, PXG is considered one of the top golf equipment providers in the world. As part of its mission, the company is committed to supporting talented collegiate golfers in their pursuit of excellence on the course.
Â
"Bob and I are thrilled to support my alma-mater's athletic department, its coaches and its students," Renee Parsons shared. "CMU has done an excellent job building the golf program. Through our partnership we have the opportunity to further enhance the university's efforts and help young female golfers grow their game."
Â
The Chippewas golf program is in its fifth season since restarting in 2014. The team is coming out of its best fall yet with two third-place finishes, one at the MAC Fall Preview and the other at the Golden Grizzlies Invite.
Â
The Chippewas recently spent a week in Scottsdale, Ariz., where PXG headquarters is located. The team went through a tour-caliber custom fitting experience for their new clubs and was able to play at Scottsdale National Golf Club, a world-class private facility owned by the Parsons.
Â
"I want to thank Bob and Renee Parsons for their commitment to making sure our golf student-athletes have the very best technology available to compete for championships," Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Michael Alford said. "Being able to join the elite group of programs that are a part of the PXG family will show student-athletes the potential and investment in this program."
Â
"I am so excited to join the PXG family and for the opportunity to provide our student-athletes with outstanding equipment," head coach Jim Earle said. "The hospitality they showed our team was first class and I couldn't think of a better organization to work with."
