Lemay, Hamman honored for their performances in 12-11 OT victory
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – A sweep for Chippewa lacrosse.
CMU's Jocelyne Lemay and Dominique Hamman were named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week and the Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for their performances in the Chippewas' 12-11 nonconference overtime victory over Cincinnati.
Lemay, a senior midfielder from Peterborough, Ont., scored three goals including the dramatic game-winner in overtime on a free position attempt. It was Lemay's first hat trick of the season and it gave the Chippewas the first victory over a Power-5 opponent in the four-year history of the CMU program.
Hamman, a senior from Walworth, N.Y., made 16 saves, one shy of her own program record, in the victory over the Bearcats. She stood tall against a 37-shot barrage and her save 30 seconds in to the OT period helped preserve the tie game. She also recorded two ground balls and caused one turnover in the contest.
The Chippewas (2-1) are scheduled to play today, Tuesday (6 p.m.), at San Diego State in the first game of a California road trip that is slated to end on Friday at UC Davis.
