Howard Earns All-America Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Erin Howard earned All-America honorable mention for her performance at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Howard, a sophomore from Lansing, placed 19^th in the women's shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 7 ¾ inches. The top eight finishers in each event earn First Team All-America honors, while those athletes placing ninth-16^th are named to the second team.

The athletes finishing 17^th-24^th earn honorable mention.

It was a remarkable finish for Howard, the program record holder in the event who finished 11^th in the first round of the NCAA, also known as the East Preliminary, after being seeded 19^th. The top 12 finishers in the preliminary advanced to the NCAA Championships.

Howard and teammate Nadia Williams earned All-America honors in outdoor track & field. Williams placed 14^th in the women's long jump to garner second-team accolades. She earned First Team All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in March with a sixth-place finish in the long jump.
