Gerdeman Moves On To Lindenwood

Assistant instrumental in success of men's basketball program for 7 years
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Kyle Gerdeman is returning to his home state, and to the bench as a head coach.
Gerdeman, who served as an assistant under head coach Keno Davis with the Central Michigan men's basketball program for the past seven seasons, has accepted the head coaching job at Lindenwood, an NCAA Division II institution in St. Charles, Mo.
Both Gerdeman and his wife Angie are natives of the Show Me State. Gerdeman was the head coach at Moberly Area (Mo.) Community College for three years prior to his time at CMU.
"It's obviously bittersweet," Gerdeman said. "I'm excited about the move, but at the same time, for seven years this was a great situation. Keno gave me an opportunity and we were able to build a program, have success, win MAC championships, MAC West championships.
"For seven years, I don't think my family or I could ask for a whole lot more. The opportunity came along that I don't feel like we could pass up."
In moving on to a head-coaching job, Gerdeman is yet another success story – both in the coaching ranks and the playing ranks – who have utilized CMU men's basketball as a springboard.
Kevin Gamble, who served under Davis as an assistant at CMU from 2012-2018, recently won an NBA championship as an advance scout with the Toronto Raptors.
"I'm excited for coach Gerdeman and his family," Davis said. "He was an invaluable part of the program here at CMU and its success. Coach Gerdeman's ability to recruit and develop high-character student-athletes helped us not only produce a winning team, but a winning program year after year.
"I know there are going to be a lot of Chippewas this year following the Lindenwood Lions."
Gerdeman, like all who have served under Davis, played a major role in the Chippewas' success during his tenure. The Chippewas finished 23-12 a year ago, tying for the program's second-highest single-season win total. It marked the fifth-consecutive season in which the Chippewas have finished .500 or better.
"Coach Davis gave me the opportunity to be prepared to take another head coaching position, which is totally to his credit for giving us (assistants) the freedom to coach and do our job," Gerdeman said.
"Just watching his overall mentality of how he ran the program, and not just the practices and the games; he's so even-keeled that you have to look at the success we had and know that his style is successful. I think just the way he carried himself in general is something that I enjoyed watching and tried to add into my coaching style as well."
