Two MAC Honors For Chippewa Volleyball Players

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Megan Kern, Grace Butler and Kendall Braate combined to earn a pair of Mid-American Conference volleyball awards, the league announced today, Monday.
Kern earned the MAC West Defensive Player of the Week Award, while Butler and Braate teamed up to capture the MAC West Setter of the Week Award.
The trio helped lead CMU to a perfect 3-0 record and the championship over the weekend at the Youngstown State Red & White Invitational.
Kern, a senior libero from La Grange, Ill. led the Chippewas with 78 digs (7.09 per set) in their three victories, while adding 11 assists and three aces in earning a spot on the all-tournament team. In a five-set tournament-opening victory over Eastern Illinois, Kern tallied a career-high 37 digs.
Butler and Braate shared the setting duties for the Chippewas on the weekend, combining for 123 assists, 12 kills and 34 digs. Braate is a sophomore from Byron Center, Butler a junior from Hawthorn Woods, Ill.
The Chippewas (10-2) are scheduled to open MAC play on Friday, Sept. 27, at Northern Illinois.
