Four Chippewas Earn MAC Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – A big weekend for the Central Michigan volleyball team netted big individual accolades on Monday from the Mid-American Conference
CMU's Megan Sivertsen, Megan Kern, Kendall Braate and Grace Butler earned MAC honors after the Chippewas opened league play with a sweep of Northern Illinois and of Western Michigan on the road.
Sivertsen was named the MAC West Offensive Player of the Week, Kern earned the West Defensive Player of the Week Award, and Butler and Braate shared the MAC West Setter of the Week Award.
It is the second-consecutive week that Kern, Braate and Butler have been so honored.
Sivertsen, a sophomore middle blocker from Virginia Beach, Va., had eight kills, three blocks and a .316 attack percentage in the Chippewas' weekend-opening victory over Northern Illinois, and then posted nine kills on a season-best .571 attack percentage with a season-high seven blocks against the Broncos.
Kern, a senior libero from La Grange, Ill., racked up 37 digs on the weekend to go along with 10 assists and one ace. In Friday's win over NIU, she tallied 18 digs and then followed with 19 digs on Saturday at Western Michigan. For the season, Kern ranks third in the league in digs per set (5.18).
Braate, a sophomore from Byron Center, totaled 42 assists, an average of 6.0 per set, in the Chippewas' two victories. Butler, a junior from Hawthorn Hills, Ill., had 34 (4.86 per set). The pair combined for 27 digs on the weekend.
The Chippewas (12-2) play a MAC match at Eastern Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 3, and then play their first match at McGuirk Arena in a month on Saturday, Oct. 5 (8 p.m.) when they entertain Kent State.
