MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Mid-American Conference announced Monday an operational plan for cross country to conduct the 2020-21 season.
Â
Central Michigan is set to open the season on Saturday, Oct. 31, with the annual Jeff Drenth Memorial at Shepherd High School. The 5K meet begins at 1 p.m. with the women's race, followed by the men's. Toledo and Western Michigan (women only) round out the field.
Â
"We're very excited to race," CMU director of track & field/cross country Jenny Swieton said. "Being able to compete is the reward for all the hard work and the training. It's exciting that after seven months of no competition the MAC has allowed us to throw the spikes on and compete."
Â
The Chippewas will run one other meet – Saturday, Nov. 7 at Bowling Green – before the Mid-American Conference Championships, which are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21. The site and start time for the league championships are to be determined.
Â
The league-wide plan, approved by the MAC Directors of Athletics, takes into health and safety concerns related to COVID-19. The recommendations are and will be subject to change due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in accordance with state and local health guidelines.Â
