Chippewa Golfers Tee It Up In Arizona

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Central Michigan golf team returns to competition on Friday when its first stroke-play tournament of the season gets underway at Rio Verde Country Club.
The Chippewas join 17 other teams in the field for the 54-hole, three-day event on Rio Verde's White Wing Course, which will play to par 72 over 6,215 yards.
CMU is one of eight Mid-American Conference schools in the field. The others are host Western Michigan, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Ohio.
The field also includes Arkansas State, Boise State, Bradley, Illinois State, Arkansas Little Rock, Missouri State, Seton Hall, Missouri Kansas City, Wichita State and defending champion Xavier.
The Chippewas opened the spring portion of their schedule 2 ½ weeks ago by finishing 1-2 at the MAC Match Play Challenge in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
The CMU lineup at Rio Verde comprises juniors Jami Laude and Meghan Deardorff along with freshmen Zoe Vartyan, Claudia Salvador and Padgett Chitty.
The Chippewas go next to the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., March 13-15.
