Chippewa Wrestlers Celebrate Senior Night Against Michigan State

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan wrestling team closes the dual-meet portion of its season on Friday (7 p.m.) when it entertains Michigan State at McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas are 7-4 in duals – they finished 7-2 in the Mid-American Conference – and have won five consecutive, capped by 27-12 victory over Kent State two weeks ago.
The Chippewas will mark Senior Night and honor Logan Parks, the lone senior on the squad.
It also marks the final dual of the season for Michigan State, which is 8-9 and finished 2-7 in the Big Ten. The Spartans, who are unranked, defeated MAC member Cleveland State, 25-9, last weekend. The week before, they knocked off fourth-ranked Wisconsin, 19-17, in a Big Ten dual in Madison, Wis.
The Chippewas
Four CMU wrestlers are ranked nationally. Matt Stencel (285 pounds) is fourth, Drew Hildebrandt (125) is eighth, Dresden Simon (141) is 12th, and Parks (157) is 16th.
• Hildebrandt, who is 27-3 on the season, has won eight-consecutive matches, four of them by pin. Hildebrandt, who is 11-0 in duals, has scored bonus points in 13 of his victories this season, seven pins, six major decisions. Hildebrandt's 27 wins tie him for eighth most nationally.
• Stencel (25-4) shares the national lead with 14 pins and he is also riding an eight-match win streak. He has recorded a pin in three of his last four victories. His last loss came to third-ranked Tony Cassioppi, 5-1, in the title match at the Midlands Championships on Dec. 29.
Stencel's other three losses this season have come to Michigan's Mason Parris, who is ranked second nationally. Stencel is 10-1 in duals.
• Parks (17-10), who will wrestle for the final time in front of the home crowd on Friday, has won three-consecutive matches and eight of his last 11.
• Simon (24-8) is tied for second nationally with 10 major-decision victories. He has won five of his last six matches, capped by a pin against Kent State two weeks ago. It was his third fall of the season.
Scouting the Spartans
Three Spartans are ranked. Jake Tucker (157) is 25th, Layne Malczewski (174) is 24th, and Cameron Caffey (184) is ninth. Caffey is 24-6, Malczewski is 21-11, and Tucker is 24-7.
Caffey is 15-2 in duals and has won nine consecutive dual-meet matches and 22 of his last 26 matches overall. He has posted a team-high eight pins this season.
