MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton has named Zachery Ball as the program's throws coach.
Ball served from 2018-20 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Towson and before that was an assistant at Northwood in Midland. He also served at the director of operations for track & field and as an assistant strength coach and conditioning coordinator at Northwood.
"We couldn't be more excited to add coach Ball to the staff," said Swieton, who is in her fourth year in charge of the program. "His energy and enthusiasm are unmatched. He has had success at every place he has been and is the perfect person to continue to build on the success of our throws program and our program as a whole."
In two seasons at Towson, Ball's throwers set program records in the indoor weight throw and shot put as well as the outdoor shot put and discus. He helped lead the Tigers to a third-place finish in the East Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in 2019. It was the best finish in program history as Tiger throwers won the league title in the shot put and the hammer throw.
In 2020, Ball coached thrower Lauren Colemen to a berth in the NCAA Indoor Championships. It was the first time in program history that a Towson track & field student-athlete had accomplished the feat. Six of his weight throwers qualified for the ECAC Championships. It marked the most qualifiers from any one team in a single event in league history.
He also has coached on the international level in the European and Italian championships.
Ball earned a combined six Division II All-America honors – three in the weight throw, three in the hammer throw – as a student-athlete from 2010-15 at Ashland.
He was a two-year team captain and two-time Ashland Most Valuable Performer Award winner. He ranked 21st in the U.S. in the hammer throw in 2015 and his 21.89-meter weight throw is the ninth-farthest in NCAA Division II history.
