MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan volleyball team heads to Eastern Michigan tonight for a Mid-American Conference match, kicking off a busy seven-day stretch for CMU Athletics.
CMU's field hockey, soccer, cross country, and football teams are in action this weekend, while CMU's wrestling and women's basketball programs are set for their respective intrasquad games, the Chippewa lacrosse team continues its fall exhibition schedule, and the CMU women's golf team plays its final tournament of the fall early next week.
The Chippewa volleyball team is 8-12, 2-6 MAC; Eastern is 8-11, 3-5.
Tonight's match, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., is the first of three over four-day span for CMU. The Chippewas are scheduled to play a two-match series at Miami (Ohio) beginning on Friday (7 p.m.) and concluding on Saturday (5 p.m.). The RedHawks are 3-15, 1-7.
FIELD HOCKEY
The Chippewa field hockey team heads south for two games, one a MAC matchup the other a nonleaguer.
CMU, which is 3-10, 1-4 MAC, is scheduled to play at a league game at Bellarmine, 2-11, 1-4, in Louisville, Ky. on Friday (1 p.m.) and then goes to Saint Louis (2-12) for a nonconference game on Sunday (1 p.m.).
CROSS COUNTRY
The CMU women's cross country team is set to welcome Toledo for the Chippewa Invitational on Friday (5:30 p.m.) at Shepherd High School. The Chippewa men will not partake in the event.
SOCCER
The Chippewa soccer team kicks plays two MAC games over the next four days against two of the top teams in the MAC.
The Chippewas are scheduled to go to Kent State on Thursday (7 p.m.) and then entertain Ohio on Sunday (1 p.m.). CMU is 7-7-0, 4-4-0 MAC and is tied with Miami (Ohio) for sixth place in the league standings. The top six teams earn a berth to the conference tournament.
Ohio is 10-3-2 and leads the league at 6-0-2; Kent State is 10-4-1, 6-1-1 and is tied for second place with Bowling Green.
Sunday's game is the final home game for CMU and the program will honor seven seniors some 30 minutes before kickoff. The seniors are Amanda Britain, Ava Bronzetti, Maria Kaschalk, Samantha Kaye-Toral, Riley Mann, Chesney Wargo and Maddie West.
FOOTBALL
The Chippewas entertain Northern Illinois in a big MAC game on Saturday (noon). CMU is 4-3, 2-1 and riding a two-game win streak. The Huskies are 5-2, 3-0, have won four straight, and lead the MAC West.
CMU is tied for second place with Ball State and Western Michigan, one game behind the Huskies.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The CMU women's basketball team will tip off with its annual Maroon & Gold intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday (9 a.m.) at McGuirk Arena.
Admission is free and the public is welcome.
WRESTLING
The Chippewa wrestling program will hold its annual Maroon & Gold intrasquad dual at McGuirk Arena on Monday (7 p.m.).
LACROSSE
The CMU lacrosse squad is scheduled to play at Ohio State on Saturday in a series of 55-minute exhibition matches. The Chippewas are slated to play the Buckeyes, Pitt and Robert Morris.
GOLF
The CMU women's golf team is scheduled to wrap up an outstanding fall season when it goes to Spartanburg, S.C. for the Terrier Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford, at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
The 17-team, 54-hole event is scheduled to begin at on Monday, Oct. 25 with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The second round is set for Monday afternoon and the third and final round is slated for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26.
The Chippewas are coming off a 25-shot victory last week at the Rocket Classic at Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio. CMU's Casilda Allendesalazar earned medalist honors as the Chippewas won their third tournament in four fall starts.
