MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Amid smiles and heartfelt congratulations, seventy-seven Central Michigan student-athletes were celebrated Sunday morning at the CMU Athletics graduation event. Organized by the athletics department, the annual gathering took place at the John G. Kulhavi Center, creating a memorable moment for all involved.
Each graduate received a gold stole to wear with their cap and gown during the university's graduation ceremony.
Earlier Sunday morning, 10 Chippewa baseball players received their diplomas at Theunissen Stadium, while four CMU softball players earned their diplomas at the Kulhavi Center last Saturday.
"You truly are ambassadors for our university," Zyzelewski Family Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan said as she addressed those in attendance, including the graduates, family members, and friends.
"I challenge you to remain involved in this community. It will always be your home, your legacy. You now join 250,000 alumni, and that impact is impressive. You have shown leadership on campus, and I am excited about it. The best is yet to come. Ensure that this is not your greatest achievement. Apply what you have learned at Central Michigan University to make a greater impact."
Most CMU student-athletes will receive their diplomas next week during the university's graduation at McGuirk Arena.
Folan, Provost/Executive Vice President Paula Lancaster, Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Kelly Murphy, and Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services Gabrielle Lathrop all spoke and presented the stoles to student-athletes.
