KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Amanda Britain scored in the 108th minute on Sunday, lifting the Central Michigan soccer team to a dramatic 1-0 Mid-American Conference victory over Western Michigan at the WMU Soccer Complex.
It was the second-consecutive extra-time, 1-0 league win for CMU, which is 5-5-0, 2-2-0 MAC. The Broncos are 3-8-0, 1-3-0.
Jaelyn Dobrowolski assisted on Britain's game winner. It was Britain's second goal of the season. The Chippewas are 3-1-0 in extra-time games this year.
"You know what, we love overtime," CMU coach Jeremy Groves said. "This is our thing; we can win and there's no better feeling than the drama of winning the game and everyone running on the field at the end."
The Chippewas and Broncos played to a 15-all draw in shots, including 6-6 in shots on goal. CMU, however, held a 7-2 edge in shots in the two overtime periods.
CMU goalkeeper Allison LaPoint made six saves in posting her second consecutive shutout and her fifth of the season.
"Our back four and our goalkeeper got another shut out," Groves said. "They're really starting to have an identity for themselves which is awesome."
