Chippewas Top MAC Lacrosse Poll

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – First year for Mid-American Conference women's lacrosse.
And the Chippewas are No. 1 already.
Coach Sara Tisdale's Central Michigan Chippewas finished atop the MAC preseason coaches poll, edging second-place Robert Morris.
2021 marks the first year that the league will keep women's lacrosse standings and crown a champion. The Chippewas are joined by full-time MAC members Akron and Kent State; Robert Morris, Detroit Mercy and Youngstown State are affiliate members, part of the conference only for women's lacrosse.
The teams will play each league member in a home-and-home series, giving each a 10-game conference slate. There will be no league tournament in 2021. The regular-season champion receives the MAC's bid to the NCAA Tournament.
"If you don't set your sights all the way at the top, I'm not sure where you're going to land," said Tisdale, the only coach the 6-year-old program has ever had. "Being picked No. 1 is an honor. We don't take it lightly, and we want to have the opportunity to represent the MAC at the NCAA Tournament. It has become part of the expectation I think of why our players and families pick CMU."
The Chippewas received four first-place votes and totaled 33 points in the poll. Robert Morris, which received the other two first-place votes, finished with 32 points. Kent State (24 points) was third, followed by Akron (16), Detroit Mercy (13) and Youngstown State.
The Chippewas are scheduled to open the season on Friday (6 p.m.) at No. 2-ranked Notre Dame at the Irish's Loftus Sports Center, an indoor facility.
