MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan volleyball team returns to the court on Thursday for the opener of two-match Mid-American Conference series at Buffalo.
The Chippewas and Bulls are set to square off on Thursday (6 p.m.) and on Friday (2 p.m.) at Buffalo's Alumni Arena.
CMU is 3-5 both overall and in the league; Buffalo is 0-8.
Last Time Out
The Chippewas dropped two four-set matches last weekend at rival Western Michigan. CMU won the third set in both matches.
The Chippewas played both matches at Western without one of their kills leaders, Anna Erickson, and were without starting libero Kendall Braate for the second-consecutive weekend. CMU is also adjusting to the absence of Kalina Smith, a First Team All-MAC honoree in 2019 who is out for the season.
Leaders
Junior outside hitter Savannah Thompson leads CMU with 112 kills and 3.50 kills per set. Her 112 kills rank third in the MAC and her 3.50 per set ranks seventh.
Erickson, a sophomore, is averaging 3.25 kills per set and has totaled 91 on the season. Chippewa middle blocker Lisbeth Rosario-Martinez ranks fourth in the conference with a .374 hitting percentage and is tied for third in the MAC with 10 aces.
Chippewa setters Grace Butler and Kamryn Olson are combining to average 11.53 assists per set.
Scouting
Freshman Emma Gielas leads the Bulls in both kills (60) and kills per set (2.5); sophomore Abby Leigh is second on the team with 52 and 2.26.
Next
The Chippewas go to Akron for league matches on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 25-26. The Zips, 2-6, entertain Eastern Michigan in a two-match set this weekend.
