Lacrosse Opens Weekend Against 17th-Ranked Louisville

Chippewas set to entertain Cincinnati on Sunday
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – After rolling to a big win in its Mid-American Conference opener last weekend, the Central Michigan lacrosse team returns to nonconference competition with two home games this weekend.
The Chippewas are set to welcome 17th-ranked Louisville on Friday (1 p.m.) and Cincinnati on Sunday (noon) at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. The Chippewas are 3-0 at home this season.
CMU is 3-2 after a 17-4 home MAC win on Sunday over Detroit Mercy. Audrey Whiteside, Tyra Prince and Natalie Karlen scored four goals apiece to lead CMU, and Sierra Savage made six saves in goal.
Numbers
Karlen, a senior, leads CMU in both goals (14) and points (18), while sophomore Audrey Whiteside is second with 12 goals and 13 points. Junior Brennan Paddy has a team-high 14 draw controls, and Savage has posted a .455 save percentage.
Karlen is fourth in the MAC with 2.80 goals per game and Whiteside (2.40) is sixth. Savage, a sophomore, is third in the conference in goals against average (10.92) and fourth in save percentage.
Nearing the Top
Karlen enters Friday's game with 179 career points and needs six to become the program's all-time leader in that category. Jocelyne Lemay, a Chippewa from 2016-19, had 184 points.
Scouting
The Cardinals (2-2) are coming off a 13-12 loss to Virginia in their Atlantic Coast Conference opener. Junior Hannah Morris is Louisville's top scorer with 10 goals, while senior Caroline Blalock has nine goals among a team-high 15 points.
Louisville is the second ranked team on the Chippewas' 2021 schedule. CMU fell at No. 25 Vanderbilt, 16-10, on Feb. 24.
The Bearcats (3-2) are riding a two-game win streak. Both of those wins have come at home and against MAC teams, 15-5 over Kent State and 16-7 over Robert Morris. Kylie Nause leads the Bearcats in scoring with 17 goals, while Alyssa Adams has 16, and Monica Borzillo has 12. Borzillo leads Cincinnati with 26 points.
Friday's game is the first meeting between CMU and Louisville; the Chippewas are 1-4 all-time against the Bearcats, who defeated CMU, 15-14, in Cincinnati during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. CMU's victory in the series came in 2019 in Mount Pleasant, 12-11, in overtime.
