Lacrosse Heads To Youngstown State For MAC Game

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan lacrosse team heads to Youngstown State on Friday for a Mid-American Conference game with the Penguins.
The Chippewas are 3-4, 1-0 MAC. They defeated Detroit Mercy, 17-4, two weeks ago in their league opener. Last weekend, they dropped two home games, the first to No. 19 Louisville, 11-9; and the second to Cincinnati, 15-11.
Senior Natalie Karlen leads the Chippewas with 21 goals and 27 points on a .404 shot percentage. She became the program's all-time leading scorer last weekend in CMU's loss to Cincinnati. She surpassed Jocelyn Lemay, who had 184 points while playing for the Chippewas from 2016-19. Karlen has 188.
Tyra Prince and Audrey Whiteside are tied for second on the team with 13 goals apiece.
Chippewa goalkeeper Sierra Savage was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week for her performances in the losses to Louisville and to Cincinnati. She made 17 saves against the Cardinals and eight against Cincinnati. Her 17 saves are the second most in program history.
Savage became the second-consecutive Chippewa to earn the league's top individual honor for a defender. Senior Brianna Hart was so honored the previous week for her performances in a 17-4 win over Detroit Mercy and a 15-4 loss at Marquette.
Savage has faced 202 shots this season and made 70 saves. She carries a .467 saves percentage and a 11.52 goals against average.
Scouting
Youngstown State is 1-1 both overall and in the MAC. The Penguins opened with a 12-11 loss to Akron and then defeated Detroit Mercy, 12-7.
Lauren Ottensmeyer leads the Penguins in scoring with seven goals, while Callie Vaudry has five. Youngstown State goalkeeper Elicia Wells carries a 9.50 goals against average and a .558 saves percentage.
