JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Central Michigan's Erin Howard fouled on all three of her attempts on Saturday in the discus competition at the NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary at North Florida's Hodges Stadium.

Howard was one of five Chippewas who competed in the East Preliminary. One, Quiara Wheeler, advanced to the NCAA Championships, in the hammer throw. The NCAA meet is scheduled for the University of Oregon in Eugene beginning on June 9.

"Obviously today was not what Erin hoped for, but that's track & field," CMU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton said. "It doesn't always go your way.

"We are very proud of all of our women. They came down here and competed well. Overall, we had a very good meet and can't wait to get out to Eugene for the finals."

Wheeler broke her own program record in the hammer throw in the punching her ticket to the NCAA Championships. The Chippewas got another program record, this one in the pole vault, from Kasey Staley.
