MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan lacrosse head coach Sara Tisdale has announced the addition of Avery Blackmon to her staff as an assistant coach.
"One thing that stood out throughout the hiring process was Avery's experience and commitment related to student-athlete development," Tisdale said. "Avery's values align with our program's values. As we look to continue to assist our players in becoming leaders on the field, on campus, and in the community, Avery will bring great experience and first-hand knowledge to these efforts. On the field, Avery will work with the CMU draw unit and focus on the offensive side of the ball."
Blackmon joins the Central Michigan lacrosse program following a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. At Hartwick, in 2021, she helped the Hawks to the program's first conference tournament appearance since 2006 and their first-ever Empire 8 postseason win.
In addition to assisting in practice planning and execution and game day strategic decisions for lacrosse, Blackmon undertook game management duties for other varsity sporting events at Hartwick. Â
Prior to Hartwick, from 2017-19, Blackmon worked as a head coach for both high school and middle school teams at Fast and Furious Travel Lacrosse in Ball Ground, Ga.
A four-time NAIA First Team All-American at Georgetown (Ky.), Blackmon led the Tigers to three national tournament appearances, including a finals berth in 2016. In 2019, she was honored as the NAIA Player of the Year.
Blackmon earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and studio art from Georgetown. An NAIA Scholar-Athlete and IWLCA Scholar-Athlete Award recipient in 2019, she was a member of the Dean's List for three years.
