MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan soccer team triumphed over Morehead State, 1-0, on Friday, posting its first win of the season at the CMU Soccer Complex.

Freshman forward Gaelle Wells scored her first career goal just over four minutes into the game. She beat the Morehead State keeper one-on-one and slotted home a low shot to the left corner of net.

"Ideally we would love to come here tonight and score a bunch of goals," CMU coach Jeremy Groves said. "But obviously our opponent made it difficult on us and that's the way it's going to be all season."

The Chippewas outshot the Eagles, 12-5; CMU held a 5-3 edge in shot on goal and had seven corner kicks to the Eagles' one.

CMU goalkeeper Allison LaPoint made three saves.

"I thought we had a lot of people who played well," Groves said. "(LaPoint) didn't have much to do but she made a really good save where she tipped it over the bar."

The Chippewas go to Indiana on Thursday, Sept. 9, for a nonleague game with IUPUI.
