Volleyball Falls In 3 Sets To Ohio

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan volleyball team fell in straight sets on Thursday to Ohio in a Mid-American Conference match at McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas fell to 10-6, 3-2 MAC, while Ohio improved to 9-7, 3-2. CMU is scheduled to take on Kent State (10-5, 1-3) on Friday (6 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena.
Ohio applied strong offensive pressure early in the first set, which forced an 8-2 Chippewa timeout. CMU used mid-set rallies to force both Bobcats timeouts, but eventually fell, 25-22.
Despite building a 16-14 lead in set two, the Chippewas could only muster a .034 hitting percentage as the Bobcats scored 10 of the final 12 points of the set, winning 25-19.
The Chippewas and the Bobcats tied the score seven times in an intense third set. CMU led, 12-7, before Ohio utilized a series of scoring runs to tie the score at 20. The teams tied again at 24, but the next two points, a kill and a CMU attack error, moved in Ohio's favor as the Bobcats took the set, 26-24, and the match.
Senior outside hitter Anna Erickson led the Chippewas with 11 kills and Mallory Hernandez followed with 10.
Freshman setter Claire Ammeraal finished with 29 assists and Aly Gurtiza made 12 digs.
