MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Four Central Michigan volleyball players have earned All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2022 season.
The Chippewas' Mallory Hernandez and Claire Ammeraal were named to the All-MAC First Team, Aly Gurtiza earned a spot on the second team, and Ammeraal and Natalia Rejment were named to the all-freshman squad.
CMU opens play in the MAC Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 20 (4:30 p.m.) against Toledo. The CMU-Toledo winner will face tournament host Ball State, the tournament host, on Monday, Nov. 21 in a semifinal match. The championship match is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 22.
Hernandez is a senior from Fishers, Ind. who transferred to CMU before the 2022 season from Georgia. She ranks third in the MAC in both kills per set (3.47) and points per set (3.82).
Ammeraal, who hails from Madison, Wis. is seventh in the league with 7.77 assists per set. She is one of two freshmen to earn a berth on the first team and is the first Chippewa freshman named to the all-conference first team since Kaitlyn Schultz in 2008.
Gurtiza is a sophomore libero from Greenwood, Mo. who last season earned a berth on the all-freshman team. She ranks second in the MAC with 5.48 digs per set.
Rejment, an outside hitter from Rzeszow, Poland, is tied for fifth in the league with 33 aces.
With Ammeraal and Rejment each earning a berth on the all-freshman team, it marks the first time in program history that multiple Chippewas have been so honored.
The Chippewas finished the regular season 19-10, 12-6 MAC. The league-win total ties the 2008 squad for the most MAC wins by a Chippewa squad since 1994, when they finished 14-3 in league play.
