
Six CMU Wrestlers Place at Army Black Knight Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Six Central Michigan wrestlers placed in the top five in their respective weight classes on Sunday at the Army Black Knight Invitational.
Johnny Lovett turned in the best finish among the 15 Chippewas who participated in the 10-team tournament. Lovett was second at 149 pounds, finishing 2-1 after dropping a 5-3 decision to 23rd-ranked Shayne Van Ness of Penn State in the title bout.
Lovett, who is ranked 14th, opened with an 11-3 major-decision victory over Blake Saito of Brown and then defeated Matthew Williams of Army, 10-3, in a semifinal.
Also for the Chippewas, Alex Cramer (174 pounds) and Bryan Caves (285) each placed third; Corbyn Munson (157) and Tracy Hubbard (165) each finished fourth; and Ben Cushman (184) placed fifth.
Cramer opened with an 8-1 win over Chase Kranitz of Buffalo and then defeated Ross McFarland of Hofstra, 10-5. Cramer fell into the elimination bracket on a 10-5 loss to Benjamin Pasiuk of Army and then defeated Marcus Petite of Buffalo, 4-3, in the third-place match.
Caves opened with a 4-1 victory over Kade Carlson of Army and then fell, 5-4, to Taye Ghadiali of Campbell. Caves took a 6-2 decision from Chad Nix of Campbell in the third-place match.
Munson, who entered the weekend ranked 33rd, opened with a first-period pin over Josh Bonomo of Bloomsburg and then posted a 12-3 major-decision victory over Nick Stampoulos of Buffalo.
Munson fell into the elimination bracket with a 3-1 loss to No. 31 Terrell Barraclough of Penn State. Munson then fell, 7-3, to Nate Lukez of Army in the third-place match.
Hubbard opened with a pin at 6:25 of Brinton Simington of Hofstra and then downed Domonic Baker of Campbell, 4-2. Hubbard fell into the elimination bracket with a 7-3 loss to 17th-ranked Alex Facundo of Penn State. Hubbard then fell in the third-place match, 3-1 SV-1, to Dalton Harkins of Army.
Cushman opened with a 3-2 victory over Dom Falcone of Army and then dropped a 7-3 decision to Donovon Ball of Penn State. Cushman came back to post a 7-2 win over Drayton Harris of Indiana and a 6-3 win over Walker Stephenson of Army. Cushman then defeated Cole Karpinski of Army, 8-1, in the fifth-place match.
Penn State finished with 110.5 team points to win the tournament. Indiana and Army tied for second (95). The Chippewas finished sixth with 69 points.
